silver

by current standards, 25 years is a long time to stay married, happily at that, too.

but not when you see (& feel) the love that binds the lives of SY & his wife SY (yes, they have the same initials, & all their 4 children also have been given the same SY initials!). they hosted a dinner to celebrate this occasion, during which they renewed the same marriage vows they recited to each other 25 years ago.

the one part that touched me the most was when the younger daughter stood up to speak of her parents - how much she & her siblings are loved & that when she eventually marries, she hoped she would have as much love as her parents have for each other.

to me, nothing speaks more strongly of a man & his wife's love than a glowing tribute from their own children. no one present last nite doubts that this God-loving couple would stay married till their golden anniversary & beyond. SY sang this song After All These Years in dedication to his wife:

"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." matt 19:5,6

Hey, my anniversary is not far from the "silver"! It's like just yesterday! Having said that, it really takes two and the One above to be the centre of everything including the raising of children for a happy family.

Thanks, Doc, for spreading the bliss of marriage over here!

When is yours & Mrs Doc, Doc? :p

Yan,

so mathematically, ONE + two = 25 blissful years?

actually, i should thank SY for hosting the occasion & touching me with their public declaration, & therefore accountability, of their love for each other.

Sad to say, my husband is on the reserved side and won't go for these dinner, party or renewal of our wedding vows. As for me, I'm all game for it! hehehehe....

I think renewal of our wedding vows would be so romantic! Anyway....

that is so beautiful. Though the number of years, in this case 25 long years, that two people can stay together and still come out strong in their love for one another, is no doubt admirable and inspirational, I also believe that the "time" is secondary. What's (more) important is the quality of life that a couple lead together, and the journey both undertake together to reach their destination, "till death do us apart". Hope I make sense. :)

Ilene,

this means, you will have to make the 1st move & nudge hubby along. make sure your & his siblings & very close friends are in it as well.

definitely much more romantic than going on a vacation together.

(but, of course, if he can afford it, get a vacation out of him AS WELL!)

hi Jo,

yeah, the numbers are secondary but they do lend credence to the quality of the relationship. of course, the one factor that stamps the reality of their rock solid marriage is their genuine love for God.

ah, u married earlier than me... :)

all i want to say is that 25 yrs is jus a figure.. it is the growing mature thru thick n thin all through the 25 yrs that make it special :)

Beng,

all too true, which means, from the guys' view, it doesn't matter who got married earlier, as long as the wives are happy!

;)
