Happy 51st. Indeed it shows, you are one year wiser!
The dread part of the process is the amount of fluid you have to gulp down the night before. Do not procrastinate.

Don't you get knocked out before they stick that thing up your ass?

been there done the *scopy.. Laparascopy, Gastroscopy, Sigmoidoscopy, Colonoscopy & I'm not even 51... lucky u

despite being under local anaesthesia, I could feel the scope probing, choking but it's painless. if there is a next time I will probably opt for the pill camera

happy 51 where health really matters

Iml,

thanks.

i'm planning to add ribena to the bowel prep fluid to make it palatable.

doc said...

Anastasia,

english #101:

the patient will be sedated (NOT knocked out!!) with alfentanil & midazolam before the scope is inserted into (NOT stick up) the rectum (NOT ass!).

doc said...

Jo,

thanks & blessed 35!

Eugene,

thanks.

the Way, the Truth & the Life - that's the path to take.

doc said...

Jems,

thanks.

doc said...

Claire,

thanks.

everyone above 50 should have a yearly colonoscopic examination for early detection of bowel cancer.

will post about it after it's done.

doc said...

Zewt,

hmm...i fear the rear-guard will be breached!

doc said...

missyC,

thanks.

you're still alive & that's what that counts. the pill camera is not so reliable.

thumbs up...
but its not painful ler..
its the cannula insertation is painful..get EMLA before inserting cannula.. :P

doc said...

Mich,

looks like i have to insert the cannula myself!!

Michelle Mak said...

come dr...i insert for u..
my skills not bad though.. LOL

Belated Birthday wishes doc! Had gastroscopy/colonoscopy done a few years back and didn't feel a thing. although the bowel prep nearly killed me lol.

doc said...

Dobbs,

thanks.

the sedation was good, huh? one of my patients told me the same thing about the bowel prep before his anterior resection.

that's why i plan to add ribena to the fortrans to make it palatable & throw in a tab of redoxon for that fizzy vitamin c taste. heh heh!!

doc said...

Mich,

thanks but i think i'll get the anaesthetist to do it.

iml said...

You mean you can add sweetener to it????? Must remember this the next time I have to down this fluid.

doc said...

Iml,

as far as i know, no one has thought of doing this but i plan to be the 1st!! why torture oneself more when the scope is already unconfortable enough! heh heh!

Adino said...

Happy belated birthday doc!

Interesting idea to add Ribena and Redoxon haha!

doc said...

Adino,

thanks.

hmm...i sense a patent materialising!

Oops! I'm late...but as they say, better late than never! Your birthday's one day before mine? Well, belated birthday greetings and may God bless you abundantly in the year ahead. Wah...so young!!! LOL!!!

less torture for bowel cleansing if you eat less meat or consume food easily digested at least 2days b4.

ribena & redoxon more torture if prone to gastric with wobbly legs & grumpy tummy...

Happy belated birthday doc... i dread the day. my general well being is slowing down. the other day i blacked out in the gym. if we go by genetics, most ppl in my family leave early. :)

Unicorn Girl,

thanks.

at my age, a blast is not good for the heart!

so, it's a mismatch between the content of this blog & my age, huh? i'll take it as a compliment, thanks! can't help it - it's just the way i am.
