your money or your life - chapter closed.

the girl pulled through.

in fact, her recovery is just short of being labelled "miraculous." the kidneys started functioning like normal & no other organs failed despite the sepsis. she even started to eat normally today.

& how do i know the worst is over? she gave me the sweetest smile when i saw her yesterday. the only obvious evidence left of her life-threatening illness is a low-grade fever.

she should be going home soon & i am extremely happy for her and her mother. the latter's gamble may not pay off the next time.

& so ends another chapter of life's unexplained great escapes.

Just curious, could the mother be short in cash or she didn't think she could afford it? Or that she won't be able to pay it back?

But yea.... I've met doctors here who can't wait to operate. Their surgical approaches were frivolous! I still remember this surgeon who wanted to remove three of my brain tumors at once. It was an olfactory groove meningioma, tumor at the left lateral ventricle, and cavernous sinus meningioma. I found it unbelievable and asked mom to go inside his room to ask him again. He reaffirmed his intention. This was in 2008. In the end, I decided to go back to HEI.

Yvonne,

we don't know for sure about her financial status till she settles the bill at discharge within these 2 days. however, she paid the deposit on admission, so we proceeded with surgery. having spoken to her, i foresee some haggling, at least over the hospital's portion of the bill.

there will be scalpel-happy doctors wherever you go & that reflects poorly on the profession. i'm glad things turned out well for you.
