10 pins

people i know are dying like 10 pins.

the relatives of 2 colleagues of mine died just this week - one from cancer of the lung, the other, of the liver.

another colleague is now undergoing treatment for lymph node cancer.

who's next, i wonder? the waiting is akin to a game of russian roulette. we used to be in the dark concerning the cause of cancer, but now we know better. cigarette smoking, human papilloma, hepatitis B & Ebstein-Barr viruses,& Helicobacter bacterium are all known causes. but what about our lifestyle, the food & water we consume & the air we breathe?

the movies Erin Brockovich & A Civil Action are stark real-life reminders of the health hazard in our environment when we get careless or indifferent. remember Bhopal & Chernobyl? Germany is considering shutting its nuclear power plants in the wake of the Fukushima tragedy & so, you wonder, do we really need a rare earth plant in this country? no wonder the people in kuantan are up in arms at the decision.

in the meantime, the trigger-pulling continues.....

It is no secret both sides know each others' arguments. It is all about vested interests.

therefore, enjoy each moment of the day & not take life too seriously :D

pity the children who are inheriting an uncertain future because of egoistic, greedy & selfish ppl.

easier said than done, & i agree, the future generation will not have it so easy!

The possible conseuqneces of a nuclear fallout and meltdown is very scary. The effects will alter the genetics of generations.

Yvonne,

i just don't think m'sians are ready for nuclear power, neither can the authorities handle the proper management of such an enormous task.

we have a stadium with collapsed roof, parliament building with persistently leaking roof, a flyover with cracked support beams, etc.

no, we can't even put up a proper concrete building.

Maintaining a nuclear power plant requires expert and strict commitment, as we could see how the Japanese took care of their power plants in times of crisis. A lot of hard decisions to make too, decisions that can alter the future. It does require a lot of maturity. Malaysia is used to mediocrity and delibering half-hearted jobs.

Yvonne,

we're better off depending on coal-fired power or even the bakun.

Safer, huh?

Yvonne,

oil spill or coal-mine explosion probably cause less deaths than a nuclear meltdown.

so, yes, lesser of two evils.

Claire,

this is only the tip of the iceberg & it can only get worse.
