fickled-minded

after 2 weeks of wan tan mee, char kuay teow, mee siam, roti canai & dim sum, i kind of miss a good full english breakfast.
starting with oven-fresh bread with butter & juice, the main course usually consists of bacon and/or sausage.....
potato patties, baked beans & eggs.
the scrambled egg has a rich yellow colour because it's duck eggs. besides its high content of protein, vitamins A & E, it's also high on cholesterol.

just goes on to show that too much of anything can't be good.

why did you starve yourself?

Claire,

variety is the spice of life!

The typical western diet is really damn unhealthy (but daily roti canai, char koay teow n dimsum are not that great either).

My daughter's first pre-sch used to serve ham and salami EVERYDAY for lunch, and I wrote to the owner asking why is she feeding young kids with processed, cancer causing meat everyday??

SY,

you're right about the nitrite-laden ham & salami. sausages & bacon can be included in that list, too.

however, i'm surprised that schools are serving that, instead of, say, cereals & sandwiches. maybe, it's easy to prepare - just heat & serve.

so, what was the school's response to your concern?

Ham and salami are offered on top of another main meal like pasta or noodle. The sch owner, a Dutch, said it's difficult to please every parent (of different nationalities & background) but will ask the teacher to stop my daughter fr eating the processed meat if I were so concerned abt it. I even sent her articles abt ham causing cancer in kids but she probably thought I was paranoid. Some gwailos really eat ham, bacon and sausages everyday like eating rice, you would had seen that.when u were in UK!

SY,

one man's meat....

yeah, the brits were having those stuff for breakfast EVERYDAY while i was there as the hotels serve that, too. if it's english breakfast, you have to serve that.

Doc, reliving your last vacation so soon?!!! I'm definitely a Western-brekkie kind of girl :)

For some reason, English breakfast seems healthier than Asian breakfast. I guess it's because food in an English breakfast is served individually, not all goreng together.

anything with bacon is good!

Fibrate,

i can identify with you on the western breakfast preference.

yeah, when you had a great vacation, you never want it to end!!

Yvonne,

i'm not so sure they are more healthy - certainly not the bacon or sausages!

doc said...

KC,

you know what they say - anything that tastes good can't be good for the health!!

I don't take bacon except for bacon bits in carbonara sauce, and I don't eat much sausages. So it's all about moderation.

Yvonne,

it's always about moderation.
