the email that has been circulating proclaiming this event is actually a HOAX. read here.
the "bright star" seen near the moon is actually jupiter & it'll only appear as a bright spot.
i took this picture myself & it's just convinced me of one thing........
.......i need that dSLR!!

Oh so you took a photo of it? Haha! I knew it was a hoax early on because it sound unbelievable : )
And I was totally not aware of it!
haha saw the news and almost bought it too, until some news in the paper explained about it. :P
the picture looks ok to me. slr won't take anything nearer too. i tried taking the photo of the moon before, it's also very small. unless there's the humongous lens that needs extra tripod just for the lense, like what they use in birdwatching, then prolly the moon would look bigger. haha.
Foongpc,
yes, spent about an hour trying to get a good shot & this is the best my compact digicam can do.
Iml,
sometimes not knowing is bliss!!
Medie,
i was hoping to catch the moon with sharp instead of blurred edges & no matter which mode i tried, it doesn't get better than the image i posted. maybe a better sensor/processor will give sharper images?
anyway, that's just my excuse for wanting to get a dSLR.
Noticed a bright full moon on Thursday night.
Mei Teng,
i suppose you won't notice the other bright spot unless you are specifically looking for it.
and the silly emel was all over the inbox of the staffs of the FI that I work for - only to receive an announement later on from the IT dept that it's a hoax !
UG,
look at the bright side - all these emails give us opportunities to learn to be discerning, & not be deceived by other bigger scams, eg. black money, unexpected inheritances, etc.
Ahh ... I missed it!
Adino,
believe me, you didn't miss ANYTHNG!!

Beng,
yes, that's the model i had in mind, although i understand it will be phased out when the new D7000 arrives.
