for some unknown reason, today seems to be a good day to get married. other than being an easy date to remember the anniversaries, i fail to realise the significance of the number 10. i doubt if that will guarantee happiness for the couples or success for the marriages.
i wonder, if these so-called auspicious dates were more common, would they eventually be accorded the same hype of the current valentine day & mothers' day celebrations, where the people who really benefit are the florists, gift shop owners & restauranteurs?
anyway, what i will remember today for, is the good news that the trapped miners in Chile will be rescued in a few days and the PM finally proclaimed that the malaysian chinese should not be described as "kaum pendatang."
lets see which will come true.

In these Uncertain, transient times and age, Anything for a Perfect Marriage. 10.10.10
I read the paper.. he said though we were pendatang, it was 4 or 5 generations ago.. but i believe that during that time, most races are also pendatang, right? :)
Hmmm my dad was successfully weaned off the ventilator on 10.10.2010. :)
I wonder if people a thousand years ago also hype up 10.10.1010
not 'pendatang' again ??? - lol !
Iml,
hmm...bordering on desparation?
Claire,
actually there more than meets the eye. a lot of our history has been altered thru the years, eg. when i was in primary school, i learned that hang tuah was a malay warrior, but recent evidence showed that he may have been a chinese-convert bandit!!
& apparently, they were foreigners with established communities already before even parameswara came to malacca.
Yvonne,
glad for you & your dad.
thousands years ago, they were more interested in conquering new lands, i think.
UG,
hopefully that's the end of that issue!
It's good that the PM made it publicly known that the Chinese are not pendatang.
From a fengshui perspective, 10.10.10 is not really a good day but can be good depending on your Bazi (8 characters)
I am not sure what numerologists would say about 10.10.10 : )
Foongpc,
we'll see if the PM's followers will do the same.
those couples who married on that day must have made a detailed study of that date then.
10.10.10 a tragic day for the 12 killed in the horrific accident :(
as far as I'm concerned everyone are pendatangs. Period.
It's just numbers. More importantly is that the marriage works and lasts!
MissyC,
what about the orang aslis?
MeiTeng,
and love is all you need!
doc, the thing is no one knows for sure how human evolved, orang asli or not as what I read from school days history/geography book to what I know today tells different story. Even Australia, NZ, USA, Singapore etc have this problem of their citizens labelling others Immigrant when their own origin are questionable :D
The cynic in me says let's do a prospective study comparing 10-year marital outcomes in couples who got hitched on auspicious dates compared to "normal" controls! My guess is, no difference.
There's nothing wrong in believing in numerology...I just find it extremely annoying when schedules get disrupted and logic flies out of the window (like requesting for an elective LSCS preterm) just for "good fortune"!
MissyC,
i think the history i learned in primary school was unadulterated by human manipulations & lies.
It was an auspicious day certainly for hotels and restaurants!
Fibrate,
the study will surely validate that numbers do not influence the outsome of a marriage.
but the belief is so strong, once in a while, there will be requests for elective LSCSs at odd times, like 5am!
Adino,
true, they are the real winners!
