free private healthcare?

the operation theatres at the district hospital are undergoing repair works. so all emergency surgical cases seen at the hospital are sent to, & will be managed at, the private medical centre i'm attached to, under an agreement with the min of health.

that's why of late, we have had a sharp spike in the volume of surgeries - painful abdomens, broken bones, lacerated tissues, etc. the govt will foot the whole bill while the patients pay the usual govt hospital rates.

so, if you're in or around the segamat district & in need of urgent medical care, you now know how you could actually get (almost) free private healthcare.

but this is for a limited time only.

govt paymaster but $$$ comes from our own pockets. those who really can't afford it deserves subsidised healthcare but those who can afford it also goes for it no wonder the public hospitals overworked and now spillover to private.... stressed kau kau

& with the influx of medical tourist even we malaysians have to 'fight' to see doctors at private hospital.. Long Q

I have seen the waiting along corridors of public + university hospitals its alarming but at the private hospitals now also have to wait.. aren't doctors stressed to their limit ?

Mich,

yes, it's the fear of the unknown that is most scary!

Yan,

actually, all faithful tax-payers deserve an occasional tax break, like in 1999.

if you need one, i shall roll out the red carpet for you.

;)

Superman,

this offer is for those in urgent need.

Missyc,

the scenario you painted presumably applies to the cities like KL, penang & JB. elsewhere, you probably don't see queues like the 4D shops on weekends.

as for govt hospitals, who doesn't want cheap health & even cheaper medicines, even if the waiting is tedious?

i'm a small town person & i certainly could do without the "kau kau stress."

Doc, i'm confused... free private healthcare? there's no free private healthcare in Malaysia rite... I know where to get free healthcare from the government but not private... :p

doc said...

TZ,

you see, this particular govt hospital's operation theatres are all under repair. so for patients admitted there for surgery, the hospital will send them to the nearest private hospital.

at the end, the govt will pay the private hospital for services rendered (at private rate) while the patients only need to pay the govt hospital the normal rate.

but don't ask why the govt hosp is not sending the patients to the next nearest GOVT HOSP. i have no idea but i am not complaining. this arrangement only applies to segamat hosp.

not bad for the patients after all..

doc said...

Wenn,

it's a "great deal" for the patients!

hahaa...hospitals also got promotion.. whilst it lasts? hahhaa.. choy, as Jomel said..

The patients would be operated by the docs in the private hospital or the docs from the govt hospital follows along too? Wow this is indeed a great deal for the patients and more so if the patient is a government servant thus pays zero cost?!!

doc said...

Claire,

timing is everything, isn't it? just like booking online low-cost plane tickets - choose the right day & destination, you may get the tickets for (almost) free!

doc said...

Ilene,

the patients will be operated upon solely by the private doctors & they are sent back to the govt hosp the next day.

many patients have already benefitted from this fortuitous arrangement.

Last yr, my father had fracture neck of femur & was sent to my 'small town' GH, being a full govt pensioner he is entitled to free healthcare & 1st class facilities. The orthopaedic dept was bumble bee busy & Q extremely long.

The attending MO said to send him to private hospital straight away if we wanted immediate attn. Already stressed myself, running around with a bedridden grumpy old man is no no. I promptly call someone who know someone higher up at the hospital & next day, the surgeon & whole entourage of MO's including medical students all came to attend to him. Old man was rather impressed & surgery was scheduled within days after having waited for a week.

So the district hospital smart move to send their patients who needed prompt attention to your hospital instead of govt as they know very well only luckier ones gets treated 1st.

Missyc,

1st, let me say that i'm impressed your small-town GH has got medical students posted there.

2nd, it's common practice for patients with closed fractures, like your father, to be put on a "trauma list", which essentially is an ortho list for non-urgent fractures. in govt hosps, it normally takes up to a week before the surgery is done, because the lists are usually full.

truth be said, money talks. in a private facility, the doctor sees such a patient in the morning & the surgery can be done by afternoon.

incidentally, my father had a similar fracture this year. although it was promptly treated, because of previous ill-health, it triggered a series of events that eventually led to his passing. he was 79.
