fruits & nuts

i like fruits & nuts in chocolates, morning cereals, breakfast bars & salads.

so when i saw this fruit-and-nut flavoured potato chips in the local store, i was immediately attracted, esp since it came with a buy-1-free-1 offer.

however, i must admit this fruit-&-nut flavour is one of an acquired taste, esp after years of getting used to the traditional barbeque, sour cream & tomato types. the rest of the family also didn't quite like the taste. maybe that's why it was on offer - because there were few takers. i can imagine it will go the way of vanilla-flavoured coke or lemon-flavoured pepsi, both of which were widely promoted many years ago but never quite took off in sales.

perhaps, some things should be left well alone but then, nothing ventured nothing gained, right?

in the meantime, i'm stuck with 2 cannisters of stuff that tastes neither like traditional chips nor breakfast cereals. we have a house rule - anyone who buys food that the rest of the family doesn't like, will have to finish it off himself/herself.

anyone game for blueberry & hazelnuts?

You have to finish the blueberry & hazelnut yourself, dad.

in all honesty, pringles in blueberry & hazelnut flavour sound pretty awful!!

House-Tai,

in hindsight, what was i thinking???

doc said...

Iml,

would you settle for half a cannister?

doc said...

Anastasia,

looks like i may be able to finish them all by myself!!

doc said...

Medie,

Half a cannister is better than none. Again nothing ventured nothing gained!

You bought two canisters of something you never tasted before?

You sound like my dad there. He would also buy a lot of something whenever he did. Like, a whole tub of Sugus for me.

doc said...

Iml,

email to me your address & i'll send you a couple of full cannisters.

doc said...

Yvonne,

i didn't intend to buy two - it was a buy-1-free-1 offer.

did your dad devour some of the sugus himself??

Yvonne Foong said...

Oh yah now I remember the buy 1 free 1 offer. Sorru.

Nope dad did not devour the sugus himself.

doc said...

Yvonne,

sugus was the original fruit-flavoured soft sweet from decades ago. now, there are several imitations.

Maybe you could mix it with some milk and have it with cereal... but I did enjoy Vanilla coke a lot. It tasted like A&W root beer float.

doc said...

Adino,

ha ha, novel idea but i doubt if anything flavoured can take the place of real fruits & nuts with cereals.

A&W float tastes like vanilla coke because A&W uses vanilla-flavoured ice cream.

Doc, this reminds me of a health video I recently saw. It warns consumers to watch out for products with blueberries because manufacturers these days don't always use the real fruit. The purple is usually from a combo of dyes of Red #40, Blue #1 and Blue #2. We are taking in chemicals these days. Yikes!

H.Surfer,

there may be some truth in that. you know those bubble tea that's so popular? i heard those little jelly beans aren't just jelly but has plastics added into it for the rubbery texture!!
