looking & smelling nice

this chatty 50+ lady came for surgery the other day. even though she was in OT attire, i could see that she has groomed herself in preparation for the procedure. she had put on lipstick & face powder, her hair combed & tied neatly AND i could detect a definite whiff of perfume.

the surgery was went well & when i saw her in her room the next day, i asked her why she had put on the make-up & perfume. she replied that in case something went wrong & she didn't wake up from the surgery, at least she would look & smell nice to the end.

with her undeniably good looks, can you blame her?

She sounds fatalistic in a way. :P For me, it doesn't matter how I look in OT since when I emerge, there is going to be plenty of opportunities to look stunning.

are you sre it's not because of her handsome doctors that she dressed so nicely?

it would also b a great psychological help in facing surgery. i was totally unprepared. they gave me some kind of spinal drip. n when the tent accidentally moved n i could see what was happening n yet not feel, i was shocked

Don't we all want our family and friends to have good memory of us when we pass on? To some people, putting on make-up and perfume is second nature to them! Similarly, when I leave a place for good (eg. my previous job), I want to bring with me good memories of the places and the people in it, and leave behind all the ugly memories. Otherwise, it's too painful just to think of the past.

SAHM,

not that you mentioned it, i'm sure she is!

Yvonne,

that's just the point - she has this fear that she may not emerge safely from surgery, & i'm certain her doctors' good looks, or rather the lack thereof, has nothing to do with the make-up & stuff.

btw, she has to put on standard OT attire, & not her own.

MissyC,

light make-up & perfume are permitted but definitely no nail varnish which inteferes with the pulse oximeter reading.

Beng,

you probably had a spinal anaesthesia where you remain awake but didn't feel pain. maybe if this was explained fully to you, you might not have been so apprehensive.

Medie,

cute or vanity?

Kitty,

it's definitely better to leave a good impression before departure, whether from the world or from a previous job!!

in your case, you don't know if you'll need assistance from your previous company at a later time, eg. references, testimonials.

the nurses @the private wing hosp I was admitted thrice specifically insisted before being wheeled into OT, NOTHING is to be applied eg baby powder, lotion, deodorant, even lipbalm ! of course I "curi" apply baby lotion coz of aircond.

geez next time I come to your hospital ! hehe

LOL! I wouldn't put on perfurme. Imagine when a Neurosurgeon is working on my exposed brain and suddenly go, "achuuu!". My brain is going to be contaminated!

I know of some gal who actually wear not only expensive and branded undies but she ensure that both the top and bottom are a match and when I ask why spend so much for something that no one sees - her reply - if any event of an emergency - whoever attends to her will find her attractive on both on the outside and the inside ( that's if ' they ' have no choice but to cut her open up ) - LOL ! - the crazy things that ppl do -sheesh !

MissyC,

much as the hospital welcomes your support, i wish you good health always!

Yvonne,

the perfume will be obvious only at the beginning; after some time, the odour wanes.

Ms UG,

such a girl would be considered high maintenance!
