we are gripped by fear everyday.
fear of price increase of everyday needs.
fear of war outbreak in the middle east.
fear of radioactive contamination in the east coast.
fear of losing political power in putrajaya.
in hospital, the managers fear for declining profits.
the doctors fear for declining patient numbers.
the heads of dept fear for nurses shortage.
and, the patients fear for their medical condition & their ability to pay the bills. on the operating table, they fear for the outcome of their surgery. whenever i sense such fear in the patients, i try to reassure them. if they believe in God, i offer a prayer for them. if they are muslims, i invite a muslim colleague to berucap with them. & of course, if they have a request for a prayer item, eg. from a medium or temple, that they want to keep close to, i'm more than happy to accede.
after all, i think there's no greater fear than the fear of the unknown.
You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;

true..I would fear the unknown
wenn,
maybe that's why people turn to religion when faced with the unknown.
That's true. When we are in the bind, the first thing we always do is to pray. Or in some cases, seek other forms of "divine" intervention eg mediums, bomohs etc. who will always tell you that you are under a spell.
Cara,
desperate situations call for desperate measures. maybe that's why the women invariably end up having sex with the bomohs.
& they aren't even good-looking!
I fear most is getting the results from the health screening. Year in year out, I put my heart in high gear. So won't it then be better if I don't do - then no fear right doc? Then at least I don't have to trouble the Man upstairs! :)
Ilene,
you've done the right thing to go for those screening tests; how else will you be forewarned of impending ill-health?
have faith that the Man upstairs will be with you always, no matter what. that's His job anyway.
American doctors fear medical malpractice lawsuits!
Yvonne,
i thought they fear ObamaCare more???
Ah, that may be true. But I am sure there are American doctors who advocate for universal healthcare. Perhaps my doctors at the NIH. I should ask!
Yup..I fear the unknown too..faith is all needed to overcome it
Yvonne,
basic healthcare for all should be any govt's priority. unfortunately for some, defence spending takes precedence.
Alv,
yes, belief in God & then self is all the faith you need.
