an apple a day
i did something uncharacteristic this week. i ventured out of my comfort zone & made an enquiry for teaching job at IMU.
i met a few members of the faculty & they seemed keen to take me on. except they can't understand why i would give up a better paying job to teach medical students.
actually, i thought maybe i'll just do it on a part-time basis, just so i can still keep in touch with recent changes & advances in medicine, & perhaps impart some useful knowledge along the way. after all, it's been said that:
"those who can, teach. those who can't, make bad teachers."
hmm....i wonder if my students would bring me apples.
and i also found it amusing that in Paul's hierachy of Christian workers, teachers outrank healers!!
And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. 1 Cor 12:28
do teachers rock or what!!??

I think it's a great idea. A win win situation. Along the way, you're also recollecting & updating yrself. Nothing ventured nothing gain. Apples?? You mean iPod or Fuji?
true..teachers can be a great healer provided they know how..
Never try never know. You might get more from it in other way.
Pray about it, Doc.. He will pave the way smoothly for u if He wants u to go back to teaching...
yes, teachers are well respected, noble job.. NOT everyone, esp. ME can teach.. :) all the best to u!
Who knows,it might just turn out as something nice for you, or it could be divine calling, cos when you teach, you are carrying upon yourself a fisherman of man.......
take care now doc have a great weekend.
hehehe... An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor away... then Doc have to close shop and apple farmer will get all the business... :p
Anyway, all the best to your new part time career eh~
That's very noble, indeed. And biblical! IMU is blessed to have a dedicated and committed teacher like you! Bless you.
I assume the apples would be to keep you at bay?? LOL
at the end of the day, it takes passion to teach, and if you have that, why not? Keeps you happy, keeps the students happy (to have a passionate teacher.)
It is always good to teach than just being as what you described earlier in your profile..
Teaching can impart your knowledge across the board and at that moment you can also assess how good your impact on those students and your own disposition of knowledge to them.
Not everybody can teach and touch the students.. just believe it!
Cheers on..
I guess it's never to late to be a teacher ......:) & agree very much with Paul.
Iml,
yeah, it's a great idea, isn't it?
neither, because i prefer red apples.
Wenn,
it would be nice to be both, isn't it?
Superman,
true, maybe more job satisfaction?
Claire,
thanks. indeed the way will be opened if it is His will.
Eugene,
yes, it could be turned out to be something better. hmm... a fisher of man - that would indeed be a noble calling.
have a good weekend yourself!
TZ,
thanks. an apple a day would not be good for doctors.
Yan,
thanks. IMU hasn't made a formal offer yet.
Jo,
an apple a day would not be good for doctors, as the old saying goes, but it's not true these days because people still get sick from infectious diseases & cancers.
in the old days, people become teachers because they want to. these days, unemployed graduates with dubious degrees are retrained so that they can gain employment as a teacher.
Housewife9988,
i guess anything should be better than getting up at unearthly hours, esp. when age is taking its toll.
now that you mentioned it, i am wondering about the impact a teacher has on the students. could be good or bad, depending on the content.
Unicorn girl,
actually, it's never too late to be anything else - only believe!
Paul was a great teacher, wasn't he?
doc, you would definitely make a
great teacher !
just me
Practice makes perfect & Teaching makes sense. Who knows you'll earn the title Prof (is that how they earn it) and be like those kind gentle docs I know who teaches & practice at the same time.
If its your calling, its yours God Bless
Just me,
aww...you think so? thanks.
*head in the clouds*
Missyc,
ha ha, a Prof, huh?
nah...i'll be happy with a part-time stint 1st, just to see how i fit in.
You've got George Bernard Shaw's quotation wrong. It goes like this:
Those who can, DO! (e.g. doctors)
Those who can't, TEACH!!!
...and somebody has added to that:
Those who can't teach, TEACH TEACHERS! (You get a lot of those in the institutes and universities!!!) LOL!!!
STP,
i intentionally avoided Shaw's original quote in case it offended teachers like your good self & Just Me.
the quote in my post was actually a comment made in a forum discussing the merits of Shaw's original quote.
thanks for pointing out.
