1st, the british pound was at its lowest for ages;
2nd, the volcano in iceland has yet to erupt.
sometimes, we organise our holidays with military precision & scrutinise down to the minutest detail (i mean, who doesn't want total control?) but mother nature has a way of disrupting man-made plans.

I thank God that my trip to France was a week earlier, though in France I lost my uncle Robert Lau (the deputy transport minister) to liver cancer and I was not able to make it to his funeral. But I did make it to his 7-day memorial service.
Agree!!!! You can be in total control BUT, sometimes, also an itsy bitsy bit of LUCK.

Yan,
i should have guessed that many Laus in Sibu are related to each other!!
glad to know you're back safely!
Iml,
if luck comes into the equation, then control can't be complete.
we should just go ahead & book the vacation & let God decide how the future should turn out. otherwise, we'll be worried all the time about earthquake, H1N1, etc. of course bangkok is a no-no because we already KNOW there's trouble there.
Timing is indeed everything! Hope the volcanic ash clears up soon. Those poor people left stranded...
Mei Teng,
as far as malaysia is concerned, departing flights on monday are cancelled.
yes, it's terrible to be caught like that, esp after a vacation when the pocket is running on empty.
Looks like we cannot live without air travel. In the hospital where I have placement.. the team is severely understaffed because various people are stuck everywhere around the world.
LX,
it would have been worse had it occured during the summer holidays! anyway, all this is very unexpected.
