i strongly feel that mooncakes are overpriced.
i bought some recently because my daughter loves the snow-skin types, & since she's hardly home these days, i "manja" her a bit la. they averaged RM12 apiece.
now that the mid-autumn festival is over, maybe i'll pop into tesco or jusco to see if they are pushing out their stock at discount prices.
but i still won't take any for less than 30% off.
that's just the way i am. never pay for more than it's worth.
unless, it's to pamper the girl.

Guess thats what Dads are best for ... pampering their daughters!!
And many many eons down the line, she'll be making the same statement when buying her mum&dad's favourite snacks.
talk about mooncakes ... they are not only over-priced (1 mooncake = 1/2 roasted chicken)
also ...
they now come in the weirdest flavours that I can ever imagine!!!!
Blueberry and some sort of "berry" snow-skin that tasted and looked simply like flavouring and colouring layers!
And some "cheesy" ones ..
Call me ancient but I'll stick to good old "lotus paste", "red bean paste" and "nuts" ANYTIME!
I got the snow skin types last week for RM6. King's was having 50% discount :)
No wonder you didn't order my mooncakes! :P Once a year only lar.
SAHM,
i guess that's one of a dad's job description & i foresee it's a long-term tenure!
Iml,
very prophetic words! ha ha!
hi Lupie,
i can see that we grew up in similar backgrounds (jurassic period?) but since the new flavours are available, i did try out some & they can taste quite nice, eg green tea, cuppucino, etc.
Adino,
you definitely had a great deal! i could stuff myself at Rm6 each.
Yvonne,
ok, next year.
pricey but I still love mooncakes!
Wenn,
who doesn't?
heh heh!
price aside , pampering the girl another side but have you ever thought about the long term consequences eg. diabetes , high colestrol , oily etc.etc.etc ?
UG,
ha ha, you must be joking!! she only took one & i, two, this year. people are more likely to get diabetes from drinking their 3-in-1coffee mix for a whole year or that super-sized cola that goes with that cholesterol-rich triple cheese burger!
Yes, the mooncakes are certainly overpriced and not worth buying! But every year, I find myself buying so what the heck! : )
Oh yes..lots of stuff are overpriced these days. A mini sized durian mooncake (from Shangri-La Hotel) costs RM16!
mooncakes were my favourite also in previous years, esp the double egg yolk variety, but discipline myself not to buy any in recent years because of the hefty price and also knowing I can't afford the calories!
snow skin type? that i can make.. tried last year.. maybe should give your wife the recipe?
..your are still not in facebook?
just me
Foong,
despite the price, you still buy it because you justify it by convincing yourself it's just once a year, right?
Just me,
the wife & the boy don't like mooncakes, so it's just down to the girl & i.
thanks for the offer though.
FB? what's that?
;)
Mei Teng,
over-priced & even over-rated.
too commercialised....
hey doc... i thought you are coming to sg?
Zewt,
i did, on that weekend that you said you'd be back in KL for your medicals.
anyway, will be down again on sat, oct 9. you have time for a cuppa? & perhaps offer me a favourable exchange rate? heh heh!
FB? facebook.. obviously you are not
just me
Just me,
yeah, hardly any update in mine.
