month of May

May is supposed to be a merry month, presumably as it heralds the coming of summer.

not so for my kids, both of whom were born in May. they can't truly celebrate their birthdays with a lavish meal on an outing because both are right smack in their mid-term exams.

perhaps that's just a small price to pay.

after all, this May could have been much worse off if you take the context of Osama or George Yeo. suddenly studying on your birthday doesn't seemed that difficult.

my elder girl agreed.

Now our PM needs to go to Ikea .. to get a new cabinet! GY was a huge loss to the the cabinet.

Wise words Doc. Tell your kids delayed gratification will lead them to greater things in life (and I will tell mine too when she's old enough to understand, but I'd also better start cleaning up my act...of having junkfood in bed *sheepish*)

SAHM,

nah....i think the difficult part is to fill the foreign ministry portfolio. the rest he can chosse from 2nd echelon leaders.

it was said that GY was brought down by the others in his GRC; he would have won in a SMC.

Fibrate,

i not only tell them, sometimes i enforce as well - no pain, no gain, right?

instant gratification - what can i say, even adults are vulnerable!

What can happen if they celebrate their birthday with a lavish dinner in the month of a major examination? They might write about their lavish celebration in their English essay? I think your eldest child is old enough not to let a lavish dinner go to her head, don't you think?

Yes, my girl is studying for her mid year exam and looks like she is studying for her PHD exam!

May is the herald of the dry hazy season over here? :(

Yvonne,

the elder girl is quite sensible - she wouldn't even want to eat out during exams. waste time, she says.

however, i myself was not averse to going out during exams. the only time my birthday clashed with the exams was the MCE (now SPM) when it fell on the day before the final paper. i still went out for dinner with my best friend, came back at 9pm & studied till midnite.

i got a C3 for that paper!

Andy,

believe me, every exam feels like a PhD, until you get over it. then you realise, it's no big deal & shouldn't have got all flustered over it!

Mei Teng,

yes, it has been very warm recently, hasn't it? even the sun yesterday was blood red!!

So, it's in the genes to not eat out during the exam month.

In your case, you pigged out until so late the day before exam. Can't blame the grades. Kakaka... were you sleepy during the exam? Brain freeze? When I'm tired, nothing I read goes to my long-term memory.

Maybe youths shouldn't party during exam month not because the party itself will affect their grades, but they will end up studying at the last minute and panick.

Yvonne,

nothing genetic about it,we just don't eat out on weekdays during the exam period.

i can't remember if i was sleepy that time, but i don't think so because adrenaline levels were always sky-high during exams.

You managed to become a doctor in the end. :P

Yvonne,

yeah, against all odds.

The horrible thought of losing out to anyone totally disallowed me from thinking about doing anything other than studying for my exams *LOL*
