top currency

the girl goes for her piano class on saturday mornings, & when i don't have much clinical work, i will pick her up from the teacher's house & we will go for an early lunch at a nearby shop selling indian food.

today, i had a short case to do in the morning & the nurses have organised a talk to be followed by breakfast in OT. it's lontong johor on the menu & i'm drooling just at the thought of it.

herein lies my dilemma. do i keep the appointment with my 1st-born, or do i give in to the seduction that is lontong johor?

actually, if the scenario is properly assessed, there is no dilemma. family should, on most occasions, take precedence. so over her roti cheese & my roti sardine, we talked about her upcoming birthday & what she wanted for a present, & how the Thomas Cup Finals next month will clash with her mid-term tests. & the teh tarik kurang manis never tasted sweeter.

often we parents make sacrifices for the kids without they realising it, but really it works both ways because in giving, we also receive. at the end of the day, in this materialistic world, where dollars & cents take control of our lives, we pray that the currency that matters to them is parental love.

the lontong johor will have to wait another day.

Quality time is now. Johor lontong will still taste delicious 10 years from now as you reminisce on that saturday you spent with 1st born.

Think you made the right decision, coz that lontong can always be eaten on another day when she doesnt need you to pick her up.

SAHM,

actually, if possible, she would prefer i pick her up every saturday(!!) because we both enjoy indian food. you see, the latter is not the wife's cup of tea, so to speak, so if she picks her up, they'll go for a noodle lunch.

hi doc,

how about picking her up and taking her out to eat lontong Johor? You can have your cake and eat it too :)

hi alex,

ah yes, that would be ideal, but on that day, the lontong was prepared by a muar resident & brought to hospital.

i might be johor-centric but i don't believe you can have genuine lontong johor outside of johor. by the same argument, i don't think you can savour true penang char kway teow in KL.

Lontong is my weekend breakfast at the market I frequent.

That I agree. When are we gonna have Johor lontong in Johor?

just me,

you just made me drool with saliva again!

alex,

can you tell me where, in your opinion, the best lontong is sold in JB?

i may go back on wesak 19th may. if you're not having clinics, maybe we'll do it?

hi doc,

The best lontong I have tasted is in Selasih Cafe in Persada, made by "Big Mama" Sharifah (tell her you know me *wink*). She also make the best Johor Laksa.

On 19th May, I shall be in Greece so I have to take a raincheck again. Sigh. sorry.

WHY my dearest doc, do you have to say Penang charkuayteow?
If it isn't good in KL, imagine how much worse it gets as it travels further South.
Sigh...
I don't know what to do with all my saliva now...
ha ha

hi alex,

haven't been to Persada yet but i'll look it up some time.

hope you enjoy your Greek vacation. there's always another time to meet, yes?

anastasia,

i'm not a great connoisseur of char kway teow but the only place outside of penang i know that serves CKT the way it should be, is Little Penang Cafe at mid-valley.

sorry, but it's a travesty to called it penang CKT in s'pore. absolute disgrace!!
