who are the real killers?

DOCTORS:

(1) the number of physicians in the US is 700,000

(2) accidental deaths caused by physicians per year is 120,000

(3) accidental deaths per physician is 0.171

**statistics courtesy of US dept of health & human services**

GUNS-OWNERS:
(1) the number of gun owners in the US is 80,000,000
(yes, that's 80 million!!)

(2) the number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500

(3) the number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.000188

**statistics courtesy of FBI**

so, statistically, doctors are about 900 times more dangerous than gun owners!!

so REMEMBER : guns don't kill people, doctors do!

FACT : not everyone has a gun but almost everyone has at least one doctor....

ACTION : we must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!

however, out of concern for the public at large, i withheld statistics on LAWYERS for fear that the shock would cause people to panic & seek medical attention!!

**disclaimer** i received this email from a colleague but can't verify its authenicity**

check out more statistics on gun violence here and medical errors here.

To be fair, there must be statistic that shows:
Number of possible deaths if there is no intervention from MO

Sometimes we ourselves are the killers as we take things for granted like a simple flu and fever. We then become 'doctors' and treat our own self. We reach out for that medication that has been kept away for months knowing that it will come in handy one day! Handy indeed - shortcut to heaven/hell!

Then when very serious already, faster run to the real doctors. By which time too late then blame the doctors lor! Blame already never mind, some more go and spread the news that this so and so doctor no good wan.

So who are the real killers? OURSELVES!

Iml,

even though this statistic refers to medical errors, from my personal experience, i can safely say nurses contribute around 50% of mistakes committed, either from ignorance, indifference or couldn't-care-less attitude. sometimes i want to bang my head against the wall when they can't even follow simple instructions!

eg. if i say, serve 3 eggs a day to patient, they will serve all 3 eggs for breakfast, & not 1 each for breakfast, lunch & dinner!!

What about number of lives saved versus number of accidental deaths?

Isn't this like looking at a tiny blot on a big whiteboard?

DOC, my mother is blessed to have wonderful doctors during her journey in her fight against MDS. One or two doctors from the government hospital I may not like but overall, I'm very grateful to them. They did their best.

aiyah Jonzz,

this is just a satirical post even though the statistics may be correct. just shows how you can manipulate figures to prove a point/serve your own purpose - in this case, a poke in the rib to make doctors look bad.

of course, there are a lot more gun deaths, from intentional shooting, suicide, etc.

Ilene,

i also personally believe doctors are generally good people with a sincere desire to help, heal & relieve suffering.

only a few choose to take another path.
