the flesh is weak

we were at the mall when this guy tried to get me to apply for a credit card, which i declined. i was glad he didn't persist because we were already hungry & were going for dinner.

after dinner we passed by the same people promoting credit cards, but this time it was a girl who tried to convince me. as usual, i declined but she was more persistent than her male colleague, expounding the benefits of the card plus the free toy gift. as i walked off, she followed me, this time coming up with the sob story about having to work the whole day without a successful application.

that tugged at my heart strings, so i relented but with a condition. i said i'd agree only if my son liked the toy. as it turned out, the boy didn't. not to be outdone, & like a last gasp effort, she offered not one but 2 carrier bags as replacement, again reiterating that she's not had a "sale" all day. i finally caved in.

so now, i'm the proud owner of 2 new carrier bags & soon, another 2 credit cards from citibank.

Haha. I like the title, the flesh is weak.
Nowadays those bank really hard sell the credit cards. The bank also need the money. But hopefully the banks will have not simply approve the credit cards for the youngster those who just started to work. This will create a credit bubble for all the banks as youngsters really heavily depend on credit cards and spend a lot future money which they don't have.
You get a good deal. Two bag instead of one. :)

Yippee!! She's probably used the same sob story on every other person she pounds on. Hee!

Anyway, just rememeber to request for free annual fee waiver at the end of the first year, or just cancel and return the cards.

Claire,

not my 1st time, too.

err...i think no amount of gym work can overcome spiritual weakness. :(

Yan,

may the Lord forgive you for your transgression.

Jonzz,

it isn't funny when they are very persistent.

Jems,

i'm beginning to realise that the "sob story" might be the ace up her sleeve.

& yes, i'm Adam, like all my fellow brethren.

Superman,

i'd like to look at this as a win-win situation.

i get the bags, she gets her commission, & the bank gets to boast about their credit card statistics.

Jo,

i do not intend to use the cards at all. will cancel it at the end of the free-annual-fee period.

thanks for the tip.

It's a tough business out there...especially when one has a target to meet, failing, which...

Had a similar experience recently when a staff from a local bank 'begged' my hubby to apply for a free-for-life credit card. She said she has yet to meet her sales target and all she needed was an application. My hubby doesn't even need to accept the card when it is approved eventually!

No harm helping her, I guess. :)

I used to work in bank card centre centuries ago & it was a privilege to own a credit card those days, but today its being forced upon you so the banks are really like AhLong. Thus AKPK comes in..

Be careful when you get accosted by sales people and sign on the dotted line as they use your personal particulars for other means.

Hi WangTT,

that's the only reason i signed up - not for the bags & certainly not for the cards.

(secretly, i'm hoping they won't approve because i just terminated another card from the same bank.)

ms45,

thanks, i'm aware they use the info for other sales people. sometimes i get calls from insurance companies & banks offering loans.

I met some in Penang...and one aggressive lady was literally pushing the form into my face. I glared at her angrily and looked as if I was going to beat her up... Then, she quietly walked away!

But I do know of people who apply for credit cards to get the free gifts - and cancel the cards as soon as the free membership fee period expires...

STP,

ah, looks like there are still some things in life that are free...

(but must remember to cancel the card when the time comes)
