i hate kids!!

managed to watch for the 1st time an episode of Mercy this week. one of the nurses' husband was trying to convince her to start a family but she said she preferred pets. she also said this as-a-matter-of factly :

"i hate kids! they fail maths, crash cars & do drugs!"

isn't this view a little extreme?

certainly not in the american context because kids actually do that (& more) over there. similarly, here, some people also expressedly hate kids, going by recent news reports of new-borns abandoned at various public & concealed places, & fathers splashing acid on their kids.

all these new & improved advances that science & technology has brought into our lives hasn't changed our character one bit. in this age of supersonic air travel, super-fast computers & super high-definition audio-visual equipment, can we not also be more caring, more concerned & more gracious to those around us?

we have instead become under-performing human beings. yoda may have predicted our tendency for evil when he said something like this : fear leads to anger, anger leads to hatred, & hatred to the dark side.

anyway, in a twist to the tale, the nurse in question in that medical drama somehow changed her mind & decided to start the family that her hubby desired.

perhaps, there's still some good left in this world.

Some people hate kids, abandoned them after birth; some people love kids, but hard to get one. *sigh*

that is quite common nowadays... when i got married, i couldnt wait to have a kid.. and i have birth to my son after a year..

Sometime i just don't understand... if the parent don like kids... why they still wanna to get the children. Please don't tell me they had it becoz their carelessness :p

That's such a pessimistic view. As if parents' never did any of those stuff! Parents are responsible for their children's attitudes too.

Cindy,

this will sound so cliche, but your
time will come. my 1st came after FIVE years & the 2nd after another EIGHT years.

just let us have the good news ASAP!!

Claire,

isn't it nice when your kids are all grown up & you still look young???!!!

doc said...

TZ,

i don't understand them myself. perhaps their initial lovey-dovey circumstances had changed with time.

Mei Teng,

that's just a typical american TV show & they tend to be over-dramatic!

Wenn,

a lot of us still do. it's just that the many who don't, get undue publicity in the media.

Then, to have kids was to fulfil the family duty. Now, it's because you want to nurture and love them. So we do have a choice.

Iml,

the 2 reasons seem so closely related, it's almost the same reason!!

I am not particularly a fan of kids.. but I think I don't mind having my own.. having said that, I think I won't ever have.. sigh!! No one wants, Doc!

doc said...

LX,

i'm certain once you are in a steady relationship, you will develop maternal instincts. it's quite natural, esp for people who like pets.

time will tell.

It's better to profess that one hates kids, and NOT have kids.. Than to have and not know how to love them. Agreed?

Jo,

how very true! i know of a few couples who are just as happily married without kids as those who have.

I think it's unfair to say kids fail math, crash cars and do drugs. Adults also do such things, and remember all adults used to be kids too.

doc said...

Adino,

that cynical comment was made in the context of american kids, & is biased because the character who said those words wasn't keen on starting a family.

I wonder what happen to the days when our parents use to say ' kids are gifts from God - nurture them and love them just as God loves us ' .

doc said...

UG,

those days are very much here with us, except that people have change thru the ages.
