happy-go-lucky

when you have kids, you can't help but compare them, eg. who talked or walked 1st, who's the grumpy one & who's fussy with food.

my daughter is very much focussed in school, conscientious in her work & will strive hard to do well.

my son is just the opposite. though he enjoys school (because he can play with his friends, i suspect) he nevertheless slacks if there an opportunity for it, & is happy if he can skip tuition.

during the recent mid-term test, he ended up in 36th position out of 42. i told him his performance is not good & he will drop class if he doesn't buck up. all he said was:

it's not so bad, what? there are still 6 people below me!

well, this is one boy with a glass-half-full outlook in life and God willing, he will live contentedly to a ripe old age.

That's how my youngest daughter would reply too.

Iml,

i believe these are kids who will grow up to be contented happy-go-lucky adults.

I have friends who were in the first class of the science stream who would say they were not good in their studies and didn't understand why they were put into that class. Now as adults, not everyone of them have grown up intelligent or smart.

Haha. Well, be glad that your son will be able to face turbulent times without losing his cool. Some kids grow up so neurotic that when they face real life challenges, they become scared and helpless.

Yvonne,

maybe your classmates would have been better placed in another stream.

let's pray he survives thru those turbulent times!

I am not sure if it has to do with the sex of the child or birth order. I suspect it is more birth order. My oldest is like your girl, whilst my son is like yours. Well, like it has been said: It takes all kinds to make a world!

Don't be surprised if the boy one day grew up to become a hot shot entrepreneur or sales & marketing guy earning more than the father and sister combined.

SAHM,

i also suspect it's also because parents often "manja" the youngest.

Mei Teng,

PS. welcome home!

Soo,

ha ha, that's going to be a surprise because he's not careful with his pocket money now.

Doc: if he is not careful with his pocket money now, he night be willing to take a chance at big dreams later. Those who hold onto their wallets too tightly never get rich,

DOC, there was this one time when my nephew got 1st (from the bottom up) and when his dad asked him why not 1st from the top he answered: "there can only be one person to be 1st on top so how can I be no. 1 on top when someone already taken"! *slap forehead*

But not to worry DOC. Somehow I notice that guys don't need to study so hard also score well in their exams eventually. Whereas girls have to burn the midnight oil in order to score. Not fair! :(

Yvonne,

really? i heard Teh Hong Piow(Public Bank), Quek Leng Chan (Hong Leong Bank) & Richard Branson (Virgin) are all tight-wads. so how?

Ilene,

he's still young & a long way off from the real world. he'll find his way somehow.

Doc, they are rich in terms of dollars and cents only, right?

Yvonne,

that much we all know.
