i just posted earlier this week about what the boy cheekily said, that he couldn't wait for the next funeral (to savour peanuts served at wakes).
and then......2 people passed on 2 days ago; a brother from the chinese church & a doctor colleague. suddenly, the cautionary remark that one should be careful what one wishes for because it may just come true, became very real.
that, i'm not really worried about but what is playing at the back of my mind now is the common belief that things or events invariably occur in threes. even shakespeare reflected on that sentiment when he wrote in hamlet:
when sorrows come,
they come not single spies,
but in battalions.
now, i wonder if there will be another demise to complete the triad?

as Christians, we shouldnt be superstitious.. but it was written somewhere in the Bible that words that come out from our mouth, might come true.. so it is said that we shouldnt curse anyone... not intentionally.. eg..
"sigh, i think i gonna have diabetes one day".. so having said that, it might be cursing our own self that we said something like that...
that is only my view... :)
Somehow children seem to have that "power".
When my father-in-law was dying, I sent my wife to the house and my daughter, then just a toddler, wanted to go in. I told her no, and we would go home first and pray that Kong-kong would be fine. (Chinese have this custom that if you're in the house when somebody dies, you can't go home...and must stay overnight!)
As I drove away, she said softly, "Kong-kong no more!"
Later my wife called and said that the father had passed away when she arrived at the house.
Imagine...I don't think my daughter even understood the concept of death at the time...
i agree with what Suituapui said about kids having the power. i was in a similar situation at six yrs old n i more or less uttered the same words but it was my grandmother who had passed away
Claire,
do you mean :Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing (James 3:10)
or,
"What goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean,' but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean.' "
(Matt 15:11)?
STP & Beng,
this goes to show that kids often need to be taken seriously.
when it's something like that, it's better not to believe!! Creepy stuff
Jo,
truth is stranger than fiction, huh?
Doc, i think there is one more verse implicating the curse of our mouth.. like dont simply say things.. ok, let me find out from my sister..she has a better memory than i do and an avid reader of the Bible which i ain't.. :(
read THE SECRET by Rhonda Bryne, then it becomes scary when you think something will happen and it happens then you think its because you think of it, it happens.
Life is a cycle. It does not stop for you and me and it so happen the people you know passes on and the events happening before makes you relate to it.
This is the story of KACANG, maybe that is why peanuts are served at all kinds of festivities a story for people to pass on...
Claire,
ok. now, there's one reason for you to read the Bible regularly!

hi Ken,
it's just a co-incidence that all these things happen.
I like to attend christian wakes
because I like to listen to the
eulogies! I nearly gave one at the wake of one friend's uncle( died at 72...I met him twice, both times at the hospital and the 2nd time he was in a coma) However there were already a few people giving eulogies and I had to leave early.
By the way, do try and remember your eulogy on your dad and blog it , please.

Just me,
you're the 2nd person to ask me about the eulogy. will post it at ..er... an appropriate time.
