a bird in hand.

you know how the saying goes  - that it's worth 2 in the bush?

i just found a new meaning today.

Y is a 77-yr-old man with severe heart disease complicated with renal failure. his wife has left him & his 4 children are not the least bothered about him.

that's because he has a 2nd wife. she's on her own because her own family doesn't know about this marriage, if one was ever held. she has not been seen since Y was admitted 2 days ago.

that leaves Y all alone floundering in the ICU. his heart is giving way & his kidneys are packing up. he's hooked up to a ventilator & there are tubes galore sticking out of him. he won't last the day.

what a way to end the year - dying alone.

yet, isn't it a paradox when they say 3's a crowd??

Doc, I'll share with you another saying that I think is most appropriate in this case :

Behind the success of every man is a woman. Behind the downfall of a successful man is probably another woman.

Which is what that has held me back from opening a new branch...

Happy lunar new year.

salam Oldstock,

thanks for sharing the modern day version of an old saying.

we are a civil society if we are allowed to do as we please & yet choose to do the right thing.

i commend you for doing so.

happy holidays!

reminds me of someone I know in similar situation, when he was young & able, his wife & mistress fought over him, till the wife said Choose one, and typical of men goes for younger one, but can't divorce or remarry due to religion. Now he's old & naggy, the mistress & family had enough of him, once even had the cheek to ask wife & children to take him back.. Obviously the answer was NO !!!

dying alone :(

MissyC,

"A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”

There's an old English saying: You make your bed, you must lie in it. I guess it is similar to reap what you sow.

As for this old man in your post, perhaps going off is a merciful option. I hate to think what would happened if he were to make it through ICU and then finds out that he has to see himself through a slow recovery all alone in the ward.

Cara,

yeah, it's just as well he passed on in ICU, or he'll face huge problems for his indiscretion. i can imagine the 2 families at each other's necks.
